KOLEJ DISTED-STAMFORD NEWS 4 January 2006
Smart beauty scores a hat trick. Within a span of 5 months she scored a hat trick on the catwalk. Her winning streak saw her clinching 3 beauty titles – Miss Kedah-Earth 2005, Miss Pesta 2005 and Miss Penang Hospitality 2005/06.
In 1990 she just made it as a finalist in the Miss Little Pesta contest, a pageant for kids held in conjunction with the annual Penang Festival (Pesta Pulau Pinang) which is one of the most anticipated local events for Penangites and tourists.
15 years later on Christmas Eve 2005, 21-year old Kolej Disted-Stamford computer science student Jolene Lim Wei Li finally became the top celebrity of the Penang Festival when she was crowned Miss Pesta 2005. She also won 3 of the beauty contest’s 12
subsidiary titles.
Jolene is a beauty with brains. She was awarded a Star Education Fund scholarship sponsored by DISTED last July to take up the Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) Bachelor of Computer Science (Hons) at the college.
In her first semester examination, she did well with CGPA 3.53 / 4.0, making her one of the top students in the programme.
* Jolene was crowned Miss Malaysia Tourism 2006 on 3rd June 2006.
Board of Governors for their constant support and encouragement. Special thanks

A Tapestry Of Reminiscence Committee would like to thank the Methodist Church In Malaysia and the MBS to our sponsors, Class 5 Science of 1974, for sponsoring the cost of production of this commemorative magazine.
Our heartfelt thanks also go to all former principals, teachers and students who personally wrote and shared their stories with us. These stories have not been edited to retain their authenticity. Many of the collection of fascinating stories have also been culled from past school magazines. In weaving together our principals’, teachers’ and students’ recollections of school spanning eight decades, due to constraints in contacting other former principals, teachers and students, we may inadvertently and invariably omit other prominent former principals, teachers and students of the school. To those whose names and stories which are inadvertently omitted in this tapestry we extend our sincere apologies.
The Committee is also grateful for the invaluable time and interviews granted and memorabilia lent by some of our illustrious former students. In particular, we would like to thank Datuk Lim Cheng Chuan, Mr. Loh Keng Aun for reading the first draft, Mr. V. P. Mohan for his insightful suggestions and photographs, Dr. Cheah Hock San and Mr. Lau Eng Liang for their rare photographs, Dr. Goh Kong Chuan for vividly sharing the school’s early history, Mr. Sam Wah Leong and Mr. Shawn Lam for their technical expertise and Dato’ Kalimullah Hassan, Mr. Chew Why Hoong and Mr. Khor Hong Yin for their constant support. Our appreciation also goes to Mr. Tan Teik Hock and Pn. Harjinder Kaur for the loan of past years’ school magazines and Gerald Goh for his assistance.
